It will undoubtedly be among the most difficult of the last years. The Italian Tour 2011 will officially open the calendar of the principal races to stages of the next cycling season on May 7th. The “pink race” has been officially shown by RCS Sport’s organizers on 23rd October in Turin, from where it will start with a charming team time trial from the Venaria Reale’s Palace. During three weeks of race from 7th to 29th May, the 2011 Italian Giro will celebrate 150 years since Italy became united, crossing Italy north to south, up and town through the “Boot” stopping in some of the most representative places in the 1861 Italian history, like Quarto dei Mille, start for the homonym historical event led by Giuseppe Garibaldi. That 2011 will be one of the most difficult editions in the recent history of the “pink race”. The pink jersey of the winner will in fact be assigned in Milan after 21 stages, with 7 arrivals in slope and 4 stages of medium mountain, 1 individual time trial of 32,8 kilometres and only 7 stages for sprinters, for total 3.496 kilometres of race. Among the most difficult climbs, the 2011 Italian Giro will face those of Montevergine of Mercogliano, Etna, Glossglockner, Monte Zoncolan, Gardeccia, Macugnaga and Sestrière, with “Coppi Top” on the 2.236 metres high of Giau Pass.
