The highlight of World Cup 2009 is definitely the race online, with start and finish in Mendrisio, for a length of 13.8 km and a vertical drop of 245 meters.
Before the final sprint, the riders face two slopes, over 10%, the first from the center of Mendrisio in the direction of the ascent of Acqua Fresca, the second long the climb of Torrazza Novazzano.

The Organizing Committee of World Cycling Championships 2009 has chosen to open the event with a free musical show: “Sacra Terra del Ticino”, a hymn to freedom, peace and justice among the peoples of Europe.
