Storia e cultura

The Marche have throughout the years endured an intriguing and fragmented story, at least up until the region had lost the temporary influence of the church. It is for this motive that the monuments of this countryside are varied to such an extent as to be compared to a splendid artistic tapestry. On the territory one can find many remains from the Roman period (XI-XIII) and Gothic (XIII-XV), but it is the Rinasciment which signals the high point of the art of the Marche. The activity is concentrated in many localities, the most important testimony you can find at Urbino, around the splendid Palace of Ducale; at Loreto in the Basilica of the Saint Casa; at Pesaro in the Palace of the Ducale and the Rocca; at Jesi in the Palace of the Lords; at San Leo in the Rocca.

Gabicce Mare situated on the border with the Romangna, it is an ideal parting point for a trip to this regions countryside: only a few minutes from Gradara ,which is today a splendid example of a Medieval town, surrounded by its mighty walls , higher up one can find the Rocca which goes back to the XIII century; following the splendid view road which follows the hills of Saint Bartolo, enjoying this beautiful view of the Adriatic one then arrives at Pesaro, the patria of Rossini, in which the antic center conserves the aspect of the five hundreds. Senigallia, a beautiful town near the sea, is home to the Rocca and the Bavarian Palace. Then there is the not long off Ancona, pictorially placed on the hills that surround the port, this city conserves much historic testimony. At Porto S Giorgio, noted as an important fishing center one can find the Rocca and also not to far away placed upon a beautiful group of hills the Torre di Palme with its interesting ruins from the XII century, not a long way off, Fermo which from the height of its Dome offers a wonderful view. www.turismo.marche.it Gabicce Mare, posta sul confine con la Romagna, è un punto di partenza ideale per l’entroterra marchigiano: a pochi minuti Gradara, splendido esempio di borgo medioevale tutt’ora cinto da mura merlate ancora percorribili, più in alto la Rocca risalente al XIII sec; percorrendo la splendida strada Panoramica che risale il colle di S.Bartolo, offrendo bellissime vedute sull’Adriatico, si giunge a Pesaro, la patria di Rossini, il cui nucleo antico conserva l’assetto cinquecentesco.
