Muravera: Sagra degli agrumi (Citrus fruit festival)
The Flumendosa valley is famous for the cultivation of a delicious variety of citrus fruit, the “Arangiu de Murera” (Murera orange), produced in the Sarrabus area. The festival takes place annually at the end of March and consists of a market displaying choice local products, as well as parades of folk musicians in costume who converge on the town from all over Sardinia.
Aritzo: Sagra delle castagne (Chestnut festival)
If you visit Aritzo in October, you can attend this local festival and enjoy chestnuts prepared in a delicious variety of ways. Alongside chestnuts, you can also sample and buy walnuts and hazelnuts, because the area is well-known for its chestnut woods and hazelnut groves.
Sanluri: Festa del Borgo (Village festival)
In September, the streets of this little town are lively with performances by travelling musicians, panpipe-players, a band, the village choir and various folk groups. There are also food stalls selling typical Sanluri dishes, such as malloreddus pasta with sausage, toasted bread (arridau), and the delicious local sweets.
Samugheo: Mostra Mercato dell’Artigianato di Samugheo (Samugheo craft market)
For the whole of August each year, the village of Samugheo is given over to its splendid craft market. On display are craft objects made from many types of material: wood, wrought iron, gold and silver, leather, clay and woven thread. The star attraction, however, are the famous textiles produced in the village, such as the beautiful carpets, tapestries and table-cloths.
Monti: Sagra del Vermentino di Monti (Vermentino wine festival)
Beginning on the first Sunday of August every year, Monti celebrates the two-day Vermentino wine festival. This is a great opportunity to taste this delicious wine, in combination with some delicious local dishes, as well as enjoying live music and folk events, or browsing around the stalls. A visit to the Vermentino wine cellars is also a must.
