Exploring the Tirso Valley in search of the Roman baths

This is a very demanding ride of about 50 km.

Leaving from the village of Ghilarza, you go towards Sorradile, passing through the settlements of Boroneddu and Tadasuni. After Tadasuni, turn right and follow the edge of Lake Omodeo in the direction of the Tirso Dam.

When you have crossed the bridge, the road ascends towards Ula Tirso, but the road surface is in very bad condition making the climb even more strenuous. Half way up, however, there is a fresh water spring, providing a welcome break for cyclists.

Pass through Ula Tirso and continue for two km uphill in the direction of Busachi. When you reach the main road (Neoneli-Busachi), descend to Busachi (379m) and from here continue towards Fordongianus. After a few km, you will be able to see the impressive new Tirso Dam on your right. Following the course of the River Tirso, you continue downhill to the municipality of Fordongianus, famous for its Roman Baths and archeological remains.

From Fordongianus, you continue towards Paulilatino where you will see the turnings towards the villages of S. Chiara and S. Serafino, and find yourself back on the original road above the old dam. Continue towards Tadasuni and Boroneddu and you will finally return to your point of departure, Ghilarza.
